The challenge was to design 2-unit Lakefront residences to provide commanding views of Lake Tahoe from each residence while concealing the proximity of the adjacent residences. Glass block, skylights and high horizontal windows were used to allow sunlight to penetrate the building envelope while not revealing the adjacent structure.
Negative space was carved out of the monolithic for framing views of Lake Tahoe from secondary rooms behind the Living Room and Master Bedroom and providing private entrances. Continuing up the 3-story stairway/light shaft one finds the rooftop terrace carefully hidden behind the low gable roof over the Master Bedroom. This terrace affords dramatic views of Lake Tahoe and a quiet spot to relax or dine under the Sierra Sun.
