This two-story Fire Station serves as secondary head quarters for the southern response zone of the City. The project elements include a battalion chief's office and sleeping room with bath, fire prevention office, evidence lockers, meeting rooms, five-bay apparatus room, maintenance facilities, physical training room, captain's rooms, individual sleeping cubicles, audio/visual instruction room/dayroom, kitchen, dining room and on-site fuel dispensing facilities for three engine companies. The site development plan was designed to accommodate facilitate the future phased development of two apparatus bays for reserve vehicles.
The innovative design approach of locating the living quarters above a portion of the apparatus room with lower ceiling height requirements, decreased injury risk for department personnel by shortening the vertical distance served by the fire poles.
